SBIR/STTR Grant Writing Workshops are 2-day intensive workshops that cover all aspects of writing SBIR/STTR grants focused on life sciences technologies. Twenty-seven life sciences entrepreneurs and economic development staff participated in the sessions conducted by the Biotechnology Business Consultants, LLC (BBC). The workshops covered all agencies, including Department of Defense, National Science Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health; and topics included sources of funding, eligibility, and details on proposal submissions.

- Anyone planning on submitting an SBIR/STTR proposal in the next 12 months
- Individuals interested in learning enough about the program to determine if they are interested in pursuing future submissions
- Individuals supporting SBIR/STTR applicants and companies including financial managers, business manaagers, other administrative personnel
- Individuals from academic institutions interested in working with SBIR/STTR applicants as subcontractors and supporting personnel

- National averages for NIH SBIR proposal funding is 19% for Phase I and 41% for Phase II
- BBC workshop and proposal preparation clients are funded on average at 45% for Phase I and 65% for Phase II
- New Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity program may provide one-on-one assistance with BBC on submissions following workshop, and partial match of award amount.
