James L. Tyree
James L. Tyree is president of Abbott Biotech Ventures Inc., and is responsible for the company's biotechnology business development projects. Previously, James was executive vice president of Pharmaceutical Products Group, where he was responsible for Abbott's global pharmaceutical business, including commercial operations, research and development and manufacturing. He was appointed to his current role in August 2009.
James has served in various management positions including senior vice president of Abbott's U.S. pharmaceutical business and senior vice president of Abbott's global nutrition business. He also served as vice president of global pharmaceutical licensing/new business development and as divisional vice president and general manager of Abbott's international pharmaceutical business in Japan.
Previously, James was president of Sugen Inc., a biotechnology start-up company and held various leadership positions at other pharmaceutical companies. He originally joined Abbott in a finance position upon his college graduation.
James is a member of the advisory boards of the University of Chicago Council on Chicago Booth and the University of Chicago ADVANCE. He is a member of the advisory board of the Kellogg Center for Biotechnology at Northwestern University. He is a member of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and co-chairman of the Global Health Policy Roundtable. He is past chairman and current member of the executive committee of the board of directors of iBIO. He served as an executive committee member of the 2010 BIO International Convention. He is also a member of the Economic Club of Chicago.
James earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and forensic studies and an M.B.A. from Indiana University.
