Alicia
I. Löffler, Ph.D.
Alicia I. Löffler, Ph.D., is the Executive Director and Associate Vice President of Commercialization for Northwestern University, overseeing all of the start-up and commercialization efforts at the university. She is also a Clinical Professor of Biotechnology at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management.
Previous to this position, Dr. Löffler directed the Biotechnology Department at the Northwestern University Kellogg Center for Biotechnology at the Kellogg School of Management, Evanston, Illinois. She founded the center at Kellogg in 2001 and today is well recognized as a major resource of thought leadership and management education for the biotechnology sector. She develops the center’s strategies together with the center’s Advisory Board composed of top executives in the life sciences sector. She is responsible for designing and running all the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and life sciences activities including the M.B.A. biotech program, executive programs and research activities.
Previous to this position, Dr. Löffler directed and ran the Northwestern University Center for Biotechnology (Sciences, Engineering and Medical School). Dr. Löffler created the center's educational programs including the Master’s Program in Biotechnology, the Summer Biotechnology Institute and career development programs. Dr. Löffler is globally recognized as a pioneer and leader in biotechnology education. She speaks and consults widely with firms, universities and governments in the United States, Asia and Europe.
Dr. Löffler serves as advisor to many external organizations including Baird Venture Partners; founding Board Member of the Biotechnology Institute, Washington, DC; Biopharmaceutical Center at the WHU in Koblenz, Germany; Women Entrepreneurial Center, Illinois; Industrial Management, Data Systems of the Emerald Group, London, UK; and Biotech Logic, Illinois. She also served as Board Member and Past-Chair, Council for Biotechnology Centers (BIO), and Board Member, Emerging Companies, Biotechnology Industry Organization and on past Illinois Governor Jim Edgar's Council for Biotechnology. She often serves as reviewer for NSF SBIR grants. She was named one of the Tech 100 stars by Crain’s Chicago Business and received the Women in Black I-Street award.
Dr. Löffler received her B.S. from the University of Minnesota, her Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts and postdoctoral training from Caltech.
